Thai gangsters are en example of cultural appropriation of another subculture in the way they take what they like about the Mexican gangster culture and integrated in their culture making a sub culture that is Thai Gangsters, only because they like the “clean and simple style” of the Mexican gangster culture and so they embrace it and take it as a part of their live, creating a new way of life where they can be what they want outside their normal lives as policeman, teachers, etc.
ReplyDeleteWhat we learn about Thai and Mexican subcultures from the article and the video is that this new “thai gangsters” subculture is stereotyping the Mexican subculture as a gangster’s type. Because they believe that be a gangster is what they watch in hip hop videos and what the young people see on this veteran Thai gangsters and imitate it without researching a little more about it. So, because of that I learn about Mexican subculture that they are gangsters who like to have tattoos in their bodies and dress like they don’t care their personal esthetic. I really don’t learn anything about Thai subcultures other than the “Thai Gangster” that is a imitation of the “Mexican Gangster” subculture.

DeleteThai gangsters are an example of cultural appropriation of another subculture when we see how they take the things they like about Mexican gansters subculture and included those things in their culture making a subculture, in this case Thai gansters.
ReplyDeleteWhat I learn about Thai and Mexican subcultures from this article and video is that the Thai gansters are making a wrong impression about the hole Mexico culture. Because they said that the style and the attitude is based in hip hop videos and movies without searching more infomation. Also, I learn that Thai gansters are just a copy of what they believe are Mexican ganters.
I totally agree with you, Thai gangsters creating their own idea about Mexican gangsters subculture and took only what they like about it, even if they only took "the good parts" of it. And this is going to be a vicious cycle where other people are going to appropiate of the Thai Gangster subculture and at the end there is going to be so many gangsters subcultures in the world. DeleteMexican gangsters are a subculture of Mexican society, their lifestyle reflects danger, adventure and adrenaline, is for this reason that their appearance has been adopted by guys in taylandia, where many men like to look like mexican gangster, to forget their boring lifes and to belong to a social group where they feel identified. ReplyDeleteI learn in this video that just because a person decides to dress up like gangster, we shouldn't associate with criminals or violence, none of these young copycats actually appreciate the brutal violence associated with real-life Latino gangs, they are just really big fans of the gangs’ fashion style and brotherhood mentality. Also i learn that they like dress like mexican gangster just because is "easy and clean"
I´m agree with you. I think that we can just going and judge others without knowing what is really happening, so if we are going to talk about it we can do it with valid arguments. Each person or group have their own way of behave and as all the people around as, we most of the time adapt and copy some things from others just because we like it we feel identify with them, but that doesn't mean that know they are complete the same as the others in the bad and good things.

DeleteThis group is a kind of immitation from the Mexico's Gangster. Coconuts got some tatoos (Some of them asks to their wives about have new tatoos)and style from Mexican Ganster. According to the article the main difference between the coconuts and Ganster is that Coconuts have profession like police and teachers. Coconuts admitted that this style represents their lives, despite they don't really know what is the origin of this social crew, and what are the really characteristics of the gangstesr. I learn from the video and the article we have a lot of lifestyles to discover, for me was rare and new to know that exist this subcultures.
ReplyDeleteFor many people some subcultures or groups are rare because it´s not normal for us. We are used to see only what surrounds us, so when something that its not common may impact and tend to create false thoughts about it. The problem is that they may have some similar characteristics but it does´t mean they are all equal. Many of them can have good behaviors and goals for their lives and others simply have bad behavior and make danger.
DeleteMexican gangsters is a subculture in mexican culture, young people from Bangkok that are trying to resemble mexican gangsters' style are the best example to explain cultural appropriation, Bangkok "gangsters" didn't even change the name of their subculture, they clearly copy the aesthetic of mexican cholos, their clothes, tattoos, hairstyles, etc., and they don't know the meaning behind all these clothes and tattoos. People from Bangkok, or other country, that see them can think that is an original subculture from their country, but in reality, they are confusing people and appropriating mexican culture.
ReplyDeleteFrom this video and article we can infer that Bangkok "gangsters" only copy mexican cholos' aesthetic and that they ignore the meaning behind this style, they think that being gangster is dressing that way and have tattoos but they ignore the violence and problems that this subculture encourages in Mexico.
I agree with you, because like in the video one of the guy said that Mexican gansters represent his life style. Their could be interpreted in a wrong way, because he no represent all the meanings that involve being a Mexican ganster.

DeleteThe Thailand gangster are an example of cultural appropriation as they have copied some features of Mexican gangster like their particular clothes, tattoos, hairstyles. One of the learning from Thailand culture is the ability to catch the art side of the Mexican culture more than the worst aspects. Maybe about the Mexican culture we can learn the role about gender because that can contributed in the begin at the best way of the familiar dynamic, whitout be extreme.

DeleteThai gangsters are an example of cultural appropriation of the Mexican gangsters that inspired them in the way of clothing, the kind of tattoos they have, their hairstyles and more things. The positive thing of this appropriation is that they only took them good things of the Mexican gangsters and that is a great idea that people should learn. One thing that I learn from the video is that we don’t have to stereotype people by their way of clothing because this Thai gangster took only that and not all gangsters are in the criminal side.

ReplyDeleteWe can see how to stereotype the people can make a wrong idea about the what they really are, we know for experience and because we are closer to mexico than they are, that the gangster peolple are not saint, they are criminals and the do a lot of bad things for the society, and what the thai think is that the mexican gangster are people who make rap and hip hop, so they do not have the real knowledge about the real meanning of gangster.
It is good that Thai gangster thinks that the Mexicans gangster are gangster only because they make rap and hip hop and not because the really meaning of gangster. In that way Thai gangsters won't have a bad impression of Latinamericans.

DeleteThai gangsters are an example of cultural appropriation of another subculture because they base their subculture in other (Mexicans gangsters). They look like Cholos who inspire them but they are not like them. Thai gangsters just appreciate Mexican aesthetic; they copy tattoos, clothes, hairstyles and music. They created a small society where they feel comfortable without doing anything wrong. We can learn that not everything is what it seems. Thai subculture just tries to capture the good sides of Mexicans gangsters that are linked to evil, troubles, and corruption problems.

ReplyDeleteWhat I can learn about this video and reading is that, no matter what we think we are there will always be some culture or other persons that will see our daily routine fascinating and also, would want to be part of them or have certain characteristics that we naturally share (like our skin color, eye shape, way of talking, etc).

ReplyDeletea culture or subculture by a cultural group or different subcultural. The Thai gangsters are is an example of it. In theirs, can show the assimilation of Mexican gangs subculture in specific elements adapted, in this case your lifestyle and dress.
From thai subculture, we learn that are people passionate about what they want, they give the heart of what they do and what they are. Also, they are people with ordinary lives, employees government, teachers, technicians, among other professions.
In Mexican gangs subculture, we see its a distinct style of dress, gothic-baroque tattoos and extravagant hairstyles. On other hand, they are associated with brutal violence, illicit drugs and fight among themselves, are macho and hyper aggressive.
I agree with you when you said that Mexican gangs subcuture are associated only with bad thins, because that is only what the media show us about them. At the end, we make stereotypes of other cultures or subcultures because we don't take the time to do a little research about them and we only have the perspective of the media.

I learned that we can nlt create stereotypes about Thai and Mexican subcultures because as we saw in the video and we read, Thai culture s differs from Mexican subculture because of the firs one are not violent. But, as Thai gansters follow some similar things like style, tattoos, brotherhood, and others; many people have a wrong idea about them. For this reason, these people have had many troubles and they have been in the jail althought their behavior is not like authorities think.

They are like a kind of example for them and as a way to express their feelings and thoughts.

Also, trying to adapt certain elements that characterized other subculture and it is not a big problem, if they only took the good ones and make some little changes. So people could know and differentiate that both groups are similar but not the same.
